Original Flava has acquired a new home!
By partnering with Lambeth's famous Queen of South for a brand new residency in Tulse Hill, the Caribbean cooking business is blessing the streets again with the flava!
Surprise, surprise, Queen of South customers…
With this partnership, they can offer Caribbean Sunday roast dinners for families!
But how did this team-up come about?
ORIGINAL FLAVA’S SPLIT FROM MARKETHOUSE BRIXTON
Late last year (2024), the managers of Markethouse Brixton were evicted from their popular venue after ongoing disputes with the landlord, sadly ending Markethouse’s 5-year management of the dining hall and event area upstairs. This was shocking news for the owners of Original Flava—Shaun and Craig McAnuff—who had built a good relationship with them for the past year and 8 months. When the new management team arrived on the scene, the brothers had mixed feelings about continuing their stay. Whilst this current managerial team was keen to have the 800k Caribbean cooking influencers remain, the brothers felt it was time to move on.
From a business perspective, any more ongoing dealings with Markethouse would have simply extended the damage to Original Flava’s brand.
So, on the 11th of December 2024, Original Flava decided to leave Market House—their first residency and the town their Nan originally lived in after coming from Jamaica.
What followed was a great void left in the Brixton area for juicy Caribbean-British fused food—with no other food brand capable of filling it.
No local jerk Sunday roasts with the family, no Jamaican nights out with friends, no date nights with your partner, nothing.
Yet the sun was still shining bright on the two brothers, who for the past three years had become popular social media influencers, best-selling authors, TV personalities & YouTubers.
BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES PARTNER TOGETHER
Enter Clement Ogbonnaya, CEO of the famous pubs Queen and South, and Prince of Peckham!
In 2023, Queen of South’s Nigerian Pub owner, Clement, stated to an independent news outlet that his desire is to ‘… combine pubs and the culture.’
Since that time, he has been seeking to partner with Original Flava (for over two years now) in order to bring this desire to fruition. Although Prince of Peckham was a cultural Black sensation, Queen of South lacked roast dinners for its growing British customers.
Fortunately, Clement and the brothers’s relationship was strong, and the siblings had always been open to working with him. With this new opportunity, Queen of South quickly became the next residency Original Flava decided to team up with after Markethouse.
On January 8th, 2025, Original Flava launched their partnership with the Queen of the South; the King had finally met the Queen!
Over 100 people attended the launch party where the brothers also debuted a brand new menu curated with the select best of their Caribbean and vegan-inspired cookbook meals. The most exciting news to hear was that they will be bringing their signature Sunday roasts to the pub every weekend!
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
From sharing quick tutorial videos on Caribbean food recipes through social media in 2016 to owning three residencies in London—Richmond, Peckham & Lambeth—several years later, Original Flava has brought Jamaican cuisine to only a few feet away from you.
What inspires them is both their mother and grandmother, who have been featured in numerous videos and posts online that have racked up millions of views. Craig McAnuff (the younger brother) mentions that Tulse Hill happens to be the second location in the UK their Nan moved into—a testament to how fate has been guiding their steps.
Now they herald what may be one of the fastest residence comebacks in Caribbean food brand history!
Queen of South already garners a large Instagram following online of 10.3k. Combining this with Original Flava’s 241k followers, their alliance is proving to be a bold Black-owned business powerhouse!
As the brothers continue to build the brand, who knows what great success might follow them next…
